The last few years have seen an incredible rise in the popularity of audio media, particularly in podcasts, audiobooks, and online education. Audible now has over 200,000 titles in its library alone, while podcast services on Spotify and other platforms have increased exponentially; and so the demand for quality voice-over artists has similarly increased.
When choosing a VO Artist for your project, you'll no doubt have some idea of the right type of voice for you. But how do you decide whom to work with when you have multiple suitable candidates?
Here are some of the things that make me a little different.
I'm professionally trained
It cannot be overstated how important it is to be trained on how to use and maintain your voice by professionals, yet many voice actors do not have formal training. I hold an Associate's Degree from Trinity College London in Drama and Speech, which I passed with distinction by obtaining a final grade of over 90%.
I take time to understand your needs
Through my skill and experience, I have built up good instincts on how to deliver a project, but there's no substitute for a good conversation. Before I record a single word, we will have an open and thorough discussion on exactly what you want from the project. If it's a fiction audiobook, I will get to know your characters as well as you do.
no limits on revisions
Many voice actors offer a limited number of revisions that can be made to a recording, typically one or two. I do not do this. On the rare occasions that I haven't quite produced what my client is looking for the first time out, we will work on it until you are 100% happy, with no limitations.
it's my job!
Sounds obvious, right? However, for many voice actors, it's a sideline. I have ten years of professional experience across a wide range of disciplines, including commercials, audiobooks, e-learning, wellness, animation, video games, and more. In addition, I have professional experience in copywriting and both audio and video editing, which enables me to spot errors in the text easily, make constructive suggestions, and understand ADR and video synch recordings.
It's also vital to have the right gear and the knowledge on how to use it. I have a full home studio with professional-grade equipment and software and have taken professional training in audio editing, to ensure that your project sounds as clear and professional as possible.
